If you consider yourself a foodie, you’ve probably heard of James Beard—cookbook author, teacher, and arguably, one of the most influential people in promoting the food culture of the United States.

James Beard loved a party. As a former caterer and cooking school instructor, he knew a thing or two about throwing everything from a casual cookout to an elaborate dinner. He was friends with some of the best chefs, sommeliers, and talented bartenders in the country and counted Julia Child as one of his closest.

Sadly, James Beard passed away in 1985 at the age of 81, but his legacy lives on through the James Beard Foundation (JBF). One of the missions of JBF is “to provide a center for the culinary arts and to continue to foster the interest James Beard inspired in all aspects of food, its preparation presentation, and of course, enjoyment.”

…Which brings us to the James Beard dinners. These dinners feature a few of America’s best chefs, from 2016 JBF finalist Kevin Nashan to 2014 JBF Award Winner Jen Jasinski. The dinners feature four to five chefs, each cooking their own course. The patron is the one who really wins—they get to enjoy a dinner that’s unique in its own right, tasting multiple courses expertly paired with wine, in a beautiful setting.
